A program refers to a group of related projects managed in a coordinated way to obtain benefits and control not available from managing them individually. A program may include operational work (i.e. on-going operations which are outside the scope of individual projects). Please note that at times a large project can be split into multiple related projects and then it is referred to as a program.
What is program Management?
Program Management refers to :
Centralized coordinated management of a program to achieve the program’s strategic benefits and objectives
Includes benefits management, stakeholder management and program governance for the entire program
Focuses on project interdependencies and optimal pacing for the program. This enables effective planning and execution of related projects in the program
Please note that program managers coordinate efforts between projects but do not manage individual projects
